AIF Insights No. 3 (2025) | AI and Algorithms in the DIKW Pyramid Perspective
This study by Professor R. Chhem, Distinguished Professor of AI and Humanities at CamTech University, explores the relationship between AI and the Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom (DIKW) Pyramid. It examines how AI progresses from Perception AI, which processes raw data, to Analytical AI, which structures information, Cognitive AI, which applies reasoning, and Autonomous AI (AGI), which aspires to ethical decision-making and self-learning.
While most AI systems operate within the Information and Knowledge tiers, the pursuit of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) remains a challenge requiring advancements in ethics, interpretability, and human-centered design. By applying the DIKW framework, this work highlights AI’s evolving role in decision-making and underscores the importance of responsible development to ensure societal benefits.
