This article explores the complex issues surrounding Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on Text and Data Mining (TDM) and authorship. TDM, a process that involves extracting useful information from large datasets, plays a crucial role in the development and functioning of AI systems. As AI technology continues to evolve and integrate into various sectors, questions regarding copyright ownership of AI-generated works have become increasingly significant. This paper provides a thorough analysis of global trends, examining the legal frameworks in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It highlights the legislative approaches these regions have adopted to address TDM and the authorship of AI-generated content. Additionally, the article examines Cambodia’s current legal landscape, identifying gaps and ambiguities in its copyright laws concerning AI. The discussion underscores the necessity for clear regulations to navigate the complexities of AI and copyright in the digital age.
